Default ? for Remington 700 Mountain Rifle Owners:

Do these come with the R3 (Sims) recoil pad, or just solid rubber? I'm entertaining the idea of getting a 700 Mountain DM in 7mm-08. I just love the feel of that stock, & the handling, too.

I've got the R3 pad on my CDL in .30-06, and it makes a world o' difference!

Please don't ask me why I'm looking at a 7mm-08, when I already have a '06! If any of us were really pressed to justify each of our guns, we'd have to empty our gun safes!

I have a M700 DM walnut stocked Mountain rifle in 7mm08..It's currently my favorite whitetail rifle..

It has a solid rubber pad.. It is noticeably milder to shoot than my .280 Rem, which is in a laminate stocked M70 ....

How does everyone like their Mountain Rifle? I'm almost ready to purchase and two of the three I have it narrowed down to are the Mountain Rifle LSS in .260 or 7mm-08.

I'm leaning a bit toward the .260, but you never know until the minute I make the buy...

I have a Mountain rifle LSS in 260 rem and love it. I must admit though that it may be a bit easier to find factory ammo for the 7mm-08.(if you handload...no prob.) Both are soft recoilers, so the stock solid rubber recoil pad is more then adequate.

Ammo availabilty is of no concern....I order online! In fact, I like that I can get a factory load with 140gr Nosler Partition in the .260 vs. the largest Partition loading in the 7mm-08 being just 140gr...much less sectional density in that bulet than the 6.5mm.

Is your .260 accurate and soft on the shoulder? Have you compared it with the same rifle in 7mm-08?

After having the trigger worked on the 260 shoots very accurate...and thats with 120gr.accutip factory loads! I have never compared it too a 7mm-08 but I have been told the 260 has slightly less recoil(probably nothing to speak of. )The 260 is very easy on the shoulder!
