The .22 hornet is a centerfire cartridge that fires a bullet that is usually 45- 50 grains, while the 22 Lr is a rimfire cartridge that normally fires a 36-40 grain bullet. The hornet has a higher velocity and greater enegy.

My guess is you are thinking of a 22 magnum. A 22 Hornet looks nothing like a 22 lr. It is small, but it is a centerfire bottleneck cartridge.

Great little round to shoot. Very effective to 200 yards, and the report is not near as bad as say a 22-250.

The Hornet is a great little round. It will make the .17 HMR look like a pellet gun. Dont understand what the .17 HMR is even for.
The Hornet is legal for deer here in Texas, but it is on the small side. It makes 4/5 the power of a .222 with half the powder.
Its definately not a rabbit gun. I shot a rabbitt with mine and it literally exploded.
I use it for deer in certain urban areas I hunt. I put it right dead center of the neck and they drop on the spot. I took this big guy last year with a 15 yd shot to the neck, and he dropped on the spot.

They aren't fancy but they sure are handy. I was looking at one in 500 Smith yesterday. Have a Tracker II slug gun coming to the chuckwagon soon. And we don't have a stroke when we take them out in the field where they get a ding or a scratch, either.
