Default Rifle Cleaning

i'm just curious as to what type/brand of oil does everyone use for gun cleaning? mainly for wiping down the exterior portion of the rifle. i have been using RemOil for interior and exterior but i dunno if this is the best. RemOil seems to disapate(sp?) quickly. i can wipe the barrel down real good and within 24 hours it is bone dry, as if there was never any oil applied. is this common with RemOil?

RemOil isn't very good, IMHO, you need to get some Outer's for the exterior and Hoppe's No. 9 to clean the bore with.

i've also just been using a bore snake. is this sufficient or should it be done more in depth with a Dewey Rod or something similiar? the bore snake seems to be doing a great job. normally with one pull there is no reminents of powder, lead, copper, etc.

I've used bore snakes alot and to me they aren't suffcient for anything except a quick cleaning. I still clean everything the old fashioned way.

As for oil, I use some Rem Oil but I mainly use this:

I've been pretty happy with it.

I also use this for my bolts:

I only use remoil for quick applications or places I want a very thin sheet of oil. Like semis action.

But the stuff is priceless duck hunting. I hunt salt water for ducks, and you need to put an application on right when you get off the water. And it works great for that.
