Default .270 or 30-06?

Ok so I found the newrifle I want to get Remington 700 SPS, but still not sure what caliber I want (My first rifle other than the little .22). Really Ithink I should get it in a 30-06, but mybuddies like and saythe .270 is the way to go. Note I live in Louisiana (mostly woods hunting) No huge feilds and praries like that, and I just want the overall all around caliber.

If you hunt deer only the .270 will handle that nicely with a little less recoil. But if you plan on Elk or moose then the 06 with its heavier bullets has an advantage.

I'd get it in 06, you wont be sorry. The 270 is a great round but the 06 is more versatile.

The .270 is a great round and has a ballistic advantage over the 30-06 with lighter bullets...although not a lot. For an "all around" gun, I would go with the 30-06.

First 3 long guns should be a 22LR, a 12 gauge, and a 30-06....
I recommend the 30-06, hands down!
Even Jack O'Connor (Mr. 270)deemed the 30-06 as being the most versatile cartridge.

Iv'e used a 3006 now for nearly 30 years.
and have never had the hankering to change to anything else.
the 270 is a very good rifle, as it has more shocking power than the 06,
my adivce, try both out and see what rifle suits you the best.
you will know after trying them out.
good luck with what ever you go with .

If it was for me and for deer, the 270 is as good as it gets.
