Default 300 RUM question

I know from examinaning a round that it appears this case could hold near 100 grs of powder. Who can tell me where it falls in the power catergory, I know it's somewhere ahead of the 300 win mag. I have no reloading data on the round and this is where I usually get my info, from manuals that is.My friend bought one in a Browning A-Bolt today and at $1.50 per pop he's gonna have to roll his own. Is there a sight where I can find reliable data for this cartrige. Thanks Glenn

I never even knew that the a-bolt was available in the 300ultramag.Try the powder and bulletmanufacturers sites for loading data.

Go to Alliant.com. I load for 3 of them. I like RL25. 100 grains is no problem, the case will hold more than that. BE CAREFUL. I am going to buy a pound of Retumbo and try it. I have heard good things. Tom.

I loaded it kinda light. 95gr of H1000 and 180gr partition kicked out about 3250fps.

Thanks guys, the factory ammo he bought was Remington brand loaded with 200gr Nosler partison. I figured that 4350 would be too slow for this cartrige, as I have it in bulk!

I have had luck with 4350 with 150gr bullets. But only got 3400fps. 200gr, I would stick with RL25 or maybe retumbo.

Actually 4350 is too fast for optimum velocity with this cartridge.

Me either. What model of aboltand when did he buy it? Or has been customized? My partner is an abolt nut and he might be interested in 300RUM in production Abolt.

US869 new from hodgdon, a replacement for H870. AA8700, or for cold weather shooting WC872 a mil-surp powder, easy on barrels, and 5 bucks a pound. the high graphite content makes it temp. sensative though.
