Now granted the ruger is a much nicer gun, with a matching price. But if you could choose between the two which route would you go?
I've never shot a Ruger No. 1 and don't know if they're any faster on reloads (yes, I know neither are going to be 'fast' by any standards). Seems both triggers leave a little to be desired...and while the ruger is downright sexy you could get another barrel or two for the NEF and still be in the same money.

You get what you pay for. Rugers are fine rifles. Any time you've got a rifle with hinges, you've introduced a potential to be inaccurate. In my opinion, accuracy is the the primary point of judgement for any rifle.
The Ruger #1 is a great rifle and they are very accurate, but so are the NEF. The choice between the two would come down to how much do you want to spend. We have both a couple NEF's in .223, and .243, and Ruger #1's in .25-06, .300 Win Mag, & .375 H&H. Any of the guns are more than enough to do the job. even though the .223 is a little short rifle we have shot crows at 200 yards with it. For the price they really shoot great.

nah, definately would go some all-american round with either one. Most likely 308 or 30-06...If I went NEF you better believe I'd get a 45-70 barrel though
(for the 45-70 fanatics...don't worry, I do put the 45-70 on the list of all-americans)

The NEF would be the choice. Ruger has long been suspect for vastly inferior triggers, poor accuracy, poor quality of craftsmanship and mishaps. Go with the NEF.

I dont own the #1 but I do own an NEF. I think the #1 is in a different league. I always heard that a breech loader was the most accurate rifle available. Is that true or not

Our 25-06 Ruger #1 will put three shots on top of each other. My buddy used to shoot local competition with his .300 WM Ruger #1. So yes they are acurate.
