Default Gun Safes

I'm not sure if this post belongs here, but I did a search and didn't find anything.

I pulled my 20 Gauge 870 Remington shotgun out of the closet today to go partridge hunting and it had a little surface rust on it. It's time that I bite the bullet andinvest ina good gun safe that will hold 12 rifles or so and that I can add some moisture control.

Anybody have any recommendations or which ones to steer away from?

Just double check to make sure it does hold 12 rifles. Mine said it could hold up to 10 rifles but it"™s tight. I have to place them just right or forget it. Just make sure you have lots of room...

Buy it twice as big as you need, I got the biggest one that traditions made (56x72x30) and its almost 2 small.
Your best bet is find a dealer near you and get at least his mid-line model, they're pretty much all about the same, just do some research on fireratings so you know what your looking at. I priced them all over the net but when in came down to it the best price was right here, he was the only dealer in town, he gave me just as good of a price as anyone else, didn't charge shipping, and delivered and installed a 1400# safe in my house for free.
Had I ordered it I would have had to unloaded the thing at my address, and getting it in the house would have been my responsibility.

I totally agree with buying the largest safe you can possibly afford and have room to place it. Also, make certain that you can get a moisture control device with it, or can put one in it. I use "GoldenRods" in mine. They are little electrig heating rods that only get warm enough to keep moisture from forming in the safe. One of the best investments I have ever made.

Where's Rebel Hog when you need him. He's the safe expert.I agree buy one bigger then you think you need. They seem to shrink. If and when you buy one I suggest a Golden Rod for it.

I agree about the golden rods, They are nice. I opted to use the rope light instead. Its nice because it keeps the moisture out and supplies you with enough of light inside the safe to see what you are looking for. The only bad part of rope light is that over time it starts to turn orange/yellow but it still works well.

Safes go buy many ratings! Here are just a few. You have to know what you are really interested in.

Also, combination locks are not all the same! There are some which can be manipulated in less than an hour and some which take 36 hours and some which can cannot be x-rayed. There are some which are guarded with Infusite Plates and some with Relsom Plates.

It all depends on how many expensiveguns and jewlery you're going to be keeping in it! I have 47 guns, my wifes jewlery and all my important papers in mine!
