Default Deal on a Remington?

I have been offered a Remington Model 700 ADL in a laminated stock for $250. It's a beautiful piece. It seemspretty clean looking too, I think. It has iron sights and 1 inch Weaver see thru rings. No scope, just the rifle. Is $250 fair, or great, or am I being set up. Also, what can I look for on the rifle that will tell me it it's been put thru hell. I own firearms, but am new to proper care of them. I would appreciate your input on this matter.Thanks.

A complete 700 action alone sells for more than that...

That is a very good deal. Even if it is beat up a little. So long as the inside of the barrel is good.

Look at the muzzle and make sure there are no nicks, dings, or dents on the crown (the edge where the hole meets the muzzle).

Take out the bolt and look down the barrel and look for any rust, crudd, or pitting. Some crudd (small particles of powder) will likely be normal but beware of extreme ammounts of buildup as this is likely rust. Check the chamber for the same thing.

Take the gun out of the stock and look for rust. Inside the stock usually rusts first if it is neglected.

Yeah DM is right. A complete 700 action is like over $300.

Sounds like a good deal. New ones with synthetic stocks are occasionally on sale for a little under $300. And, with laminated stocks the price is higher. After you get it, I'd throw away the see through rings and get some good ones.

$250 is good price. When I was looking for a 700 action to build a .338-06, I found a beat up 700 ADL. I paid $250 for it back in '97.

I don't know where you are going to get them under $300. They are sometimes on sale for just a tad under $400 maybe you mean that.

I agree Milliet is junk. Go get a leupold one piece mount.

I am a HUGE fan of the 700 ADL myself. I have a .270 and my son shoots the .243 youth model. Just FYI, I think that is an awesome deal, but just thought I would sharea little information. All of the Academy stores in my area are having closeout sales on their remaining ADL's and they are $314 brand new. They also currently have a sale on the .243 model for $286.

Regardless, you should be very happy with that choice.
