As much as I hate to promote buying guns a big chain stores like Academy, Walmart, Dicks, etc... you guys may want to check you local Academy if you have one near by.

Seems some of the stores are getting close out Remington 700 ADL's in synthetic stocks. I just put one (.243)on layaway tonight for my daughter for $286 for her Birthday on 11-1.

We couldn't buy them wholesale for that.

That's a pretty good deal for an ADL. Did you get the youth model? The Academy near my house has a couple of .270's still in stock for $286, but, I'm going pass, as I already have an ADL in .30-06 and, there's just not enough difference between the .270 and the 06 to justify another purchase.

I've only seen a better deal once. About a year ago, Bass Pro Shops had a sale price on their ADL's of $249. Academy matched the price for me on a .243, AND threw in one of their $49 hard cases for free.

I just had a conversation on this with my dad the other day as we saw the same gun at Academy also. Mydad paid a little less than $250 for myADL .270.....back in 1973. I laid claim to it one afternoon in 1988 when I piled 2 does up that some wild dogs were chasing through our lease. I was 12 years old. He hasn't shot it since! I'm trying to figure out how to put an alarm on it so he doesn't take it back...he's tried several times!

He also bought a 25-06 ADL in 1978 for my uncle at a local hunting shop for$225. My uncle doesn't hunt anymore and my dad sold that 25-06 for him a few weeks ago for $600 with a dinky burris scope.

Do you guys think the 700 ADL is better than the 710? The only reason I ask is because I am thinking of getting a rifle, my first rifle actually, though I've fired a lot of my grandpa's.
I was thinking of the 710, but I desperately HATE the stock, and I haven't seen anyother 710 stocksthat Remington has come out with, not on their catalog, or their website.

The 700 is a whole lot better gun than the 710. In my opinion there is really no comparison. I would not consider buying a 710.

And, you better get one soon, because Remington has discontinued the ADL so as to protect the 710's price point. What a stupid move!

Save your money on the 710 model and get the 700SPS. Much better bolt and gun. SPS took the place of the 700.
