200yd is about absolute max. 150 is a better range to cut it off. They drop like a rock out past those ranges

With the right load and lots of practise, 200 yards is about the max with typical bullets. With the Leverevolution maybe a bit further. After that the retained energy is getting low enough to be an issue. 150 is still well within the effective range and still be accurate enough to be sure where your going to hit. I don't suggest anyone shoot at game beyond where they have practiced and feel confident in the shot though.

THe ME of the 30-30 drops well below a 1000 lb at 200 yards. 150 yards would be a good guide line. I have seen many deer killed at 200 yards and a bit beyond with the 30-30 but it gets harder to place the bullet well at those ranges with the 30-30's trajectory.

200 yards with the new LeverEvolution ammo is doable for sure. Good luck.

If you're using this rifle where it's meant to be(in the woods) then you shouldnt have a shot more than 75yds.

If you take the time to find the correct round for your 30-30 150 to 200yds is possible.
I have 2 one Marlin and one Winchester. Both dialed in at 150yds.

I hand load for my 30-30 using a 150 grain Winchester round nose and IMR 3031 powder. The load has a MV of 2500 fps and is quite accurate for a lever gun.

Deerslayer,
The trajectory does start dropping after about 200 yards but it's not that severe. The load I shoot in my marlin 336 gives me a point blank range for a 6" target of 228 yards and is down 14.7 inches at 300 yards with that sight in.

James,
The above mentioned load does not drop below 1000fpe until 215 yards and is still above the 750 limit many consider the lower limit for deer until about 295 yards.

I have shot deer with this load out to 150 yards and they usually dropped in their tracks. I sight in 3" high at 100 yards and it's point and shoot out to 200 with average groups of 2.5" to 3"at 200 yards. That's off a bench so I limit my field shots to 150 unless I have something to steady the shot on. Many sell the 30-30 short but it is a very cappable round within the 200 yard range that most deer are shot at. I even met a guy in Wyoming last year that uses one to hunt moose, he claims he's not had any trouble harvesting them with it.

I forgot to mention the above figures are based on 500 feet above sea level. I live at 6500 feet and the round dosen't drop below 1000fpe until around 270 yards up here and the PBR is close to 240 yards and down 12.2" at 300 yards. 750fpe point is 370 yards. Don't you just love what altitude does for you.
