Default Open sights?

I'm building adeer huntinggun using an old military bolt action rifle and I'm wondering what type ofopen sights to use on it.I've decided not to use a scope on this riflesinceI will probably only useit for areas where the longest shot needed will be across a corn fieldandmost shots will likely be in the woods.

I'm trying to decide what type of sights to put on the rifle that would be the best choice for this type of hunting. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Although I have several scoped guns I prefer the quick target acquisition with the open sights.

With that said I have two types that I really like.

On my older Remington Model 760 I have a very wide V notch in the rear.
It looks odd as most new guns have a very narrow rear sight, but I find those harder to use when you need a quick shot.

But, I do have to echo the prior postand say that I also have a peep sight on an old military rifle and it is by far the quickest on target.
It is quite accurate as well.
With practice...
All of us old military guys have had plenty of practice though.
Just remember, clear tip of front sight post center mass of target.

Peep sights are great. I've only used the kind on an M16, but they're good enough for me to hit a human sized target at 500 yards away.
As said above, make sure you focus on the front sight post and have perfect sight alignment. You want that front sight post to be centered so you get the most accuracy out of it.

Squeeze the trigger too, a jerky pull and your shot is gonna be off.
With practice, peep sights are deadly accurate.

Don't use open sights. Put a sourdough-type square blade on the front (in a ramp), and a Williams Foolproof aperture sight on the side of the rear receiver bridge....
