Default Cleaning solvents and lube

I have started shooting a lot more this year and hope to keep it up. Although, now it seems to be more difficult to clean my guns.

I am looking to switch from Hoppes #9 to something that works better at removing copper, etc and general gun cleaning. I use # 9 only because I had so much of it from years ago. I really think that some of the newer products have to work better. Thought of Butch's, Sweets and Barnes, but have no experince with any.

Also, what does everyone use for lubrication and rust protection. I just ordered some Kroil from Midway to try it out.

Thanks!!

I pretty much just stick to Shooter's Choice for cleaning, and Breakfree CLP for protection on my rifles and shotguns. You're probably right though, there are probably newer more effective chemicals.

For BP I use T/C #13 for cleaning. I've been using Bore Butter for protection, but am leaning towards switching to Birchwood-Casey Sheath.

For powder fouling I like using a mixture of 75% Shooter's Choice and 25% Kroil. MPro-7 works very well too. For copper foulingmy new favorite is Montana Extreme 50 BMG. It's stong stuff, the 50 BMG that is, so use it in a well ventilated area. Wipeout works pretty good too, but requires soaking for several hours.

Some other tips:

Use a bore guide
Use a quality rod like Dewey or Boretech.
100% cotton flannel patches are much better than the synthetic type
Do no use stainless steel brushes
