Savage 22-250. It can be had for less than $500. Get the heavy barrel.

The remington VSSF II can be had for around 700ish i think, and it has an hs preseision stock, heavy fluted stainless 26in barrel. and just has an awesome feel. not to mention, it's very accurate.

Just got a savage 12 varmit low profile to shoot off the bench, only shot it at the range so far but looks like it is going to be a good shooter.
Bought a remington sps in 22/250 for a light rifle to carry for varmits It was $419 and it is a shooter too.

Hard to go wrong with a Savage, Remington 700 or Winchester 70.

The Savage will be a lot cheaper than compared to a Remington or Winchester, but on the plus side, it'll probably shoot better than the other two. I own a Model 70 22-250 and it shoots lights-out.
