That's kind of a vague question, but "yes" most people would consider it a high powered round in comparison for most rifle cartridges used in the United States. You can check just about any of the cartridge company websites, Federal, Winchester, Remington, etc., to compare it to other various rounds.

Its alot for whitetails under 100 yards. But nice for feild whitetails or Western hunting.

Youngbuck,
There is no such thing as to much gun.The only thing thats unethical about the 300 WSM is how fast it puts them down.

I have used the .300 WSM for deer,antelope,elk,bear and coyotes and it's a heck of a all-around cartrige.
Get yourself one and push some 165's through it and get some deer.
Well you might be horrified to find out that I have used a 300 win Mag,300 Ultra Mag.338 win mag,.338 ultra mag,375 H&H and 416 Rem on deer.This year I'm trying a 458 Win Mag with 300 gr Barnes-X spire-points,oughta be some smackdown this year.
