Default Accurate Slug Gun?

Whats the best accuarate slug gun out there, I'm in the market for a new gun and trying to weight my options. I live in Iowa and have no need for High Power. I'm also considering getting a muzzleloader. All input would be greatly appriciated.

I have been researching alot, and have found that the H&R Ultra Slug Hunter is a very popular gun,and you can get one for less than $200 w/scope mount. All you have to do is buy some rings, scope, and some different slugs to try out.I am getting one tomorrow.I will tell you how I like it if you'd like.

You can get a good deal on a T/C Omega Z5 at wally world, for $298 it comes with a starter kit also.My friend just got one the other day and it is nice!I hear alot of great things about them.

Shotgun...?....Easy....The Tar-Hunt RSG's....however they cost far more than most hunters are willing to spend.

If accuracy is your main objective and you are willing to considering a muzzleloader....that is an easy answer as well.....Savage 10ml Smokeless Muzzleloader

Tar-Hunt....

Savage 10ml

I would say the best slug gun for the money is the Savage 210. The H&R's are very good guns for the money, but I wouldn't call them the best or the most accurate. I have seen many pump guns shoot just as well when you find the right load. And I own an H&R ultra slug gun.

Muzzle Loaders are still easier to get more accurate and fine tune in my opinion. And cheaper to shoot. Just more of a pain in the butt is all.

We've got 2 (soon to be 3) H&R's. I have a 12 deluxe. My oldest boy has a regular 20 and we'll probobly put another 20 in the cabinet for my middle son.

Why another? They shoot VERY well. TheyareVERY simple. They are VERY well designed & built (like a bank vault).

The 12 seems a bit heavy but when pulling the trigger, the weight pays off. I'm a pretty good size guy and although we do alot of stand hunting, carrying it doesn't bother me at all.

If intrested in an H&R or other slug gun, check the used gun racks for the deals.

I would definatly like to hear your results and opinion of the H&R Slug Gun.

I wish I could afford a Tar Hunt gun, a buddy of mine has one it is just little out of my price range. ok alot out of my price range.

I got the gun yesterday! The guy could only find 3 of the 10 boxes of ammo so I got the gun,15 shells, sling, stock ammo holder, and 3-9x44 tasco world class pro for...drum roll...$250!What a deal!It is the deluxe version. For a 20ga it is very stout...fully rigged probably close to 10lbs,but it is very well balanced. That is b/c it is a 12 blank bored only to a 20ga.So it's a bull barrel. It's a nice looking gun.(I could only imagine how heavy the 12ga is since it is made from a 10ga blank.)[]

I went straight home and shot it.He had it sighted in w/Remington copper solid sabot slugs. It shoots excellent w/very little recoil. The trigger trips over real nice too,not very stiff at all.I shot it out to 75yds,and it was hitting deadon every time,just1.5" highwhich would be aboutzero'ed at 100yds.I am looking into trying the new hornady sst slugs they are a hot item this year, and are supposed to produce sub-2" groups...This gun is very accurate.I would highly recommend it.Here is a pic of it..

Also the 20ga has 1:28" rifling..the 12ga has 1:34" rifling. The 20ga spins faster, and from what I have been hearing it shoots the high powered 1900-2000fps slugs such as the win. partition gold better than the 12ga does.I hearthe 12gaprefers the slower slugs.

The 20 ga has to have a faster twist due to the fact it is used to shoot smaller bullets. Those bullets require a faster twist in order to achieve sufficient stabilization in a 20ga barrel due to their design. (see: greenhill twist factor)

Also, for clarification a 1-28" twist in a 20 gauge barrel is considered a slow twist by industry standards, not a fast twist. Almost every other rifled 20ga on the market features a 1-24" twist, while a few guns such as the Tar-Hunts have an even faster 1-23" twist.

As to which slugs the H&R's likes, be sure to let us know how your gun shoots particular slugs. I have yet to see anyone post a 100yd target with a sub 2" group from either H&R. While I have heard numerous reports of such occurences, in 95% of those cases it was always with the relatively slower sabots.

I shot a real freaky hog yesterday w/my 20ga Ultra slug hunter. It had no ears!No ear canals!Just smooth skin, and hair..very weird. Here's a pic of it,I have a more graphic close up of the head if you'd like to see where the ears should be,just let me know, and I'll PM it to you.The light grey colored spot below my hand is where the ears are supposed to be.As far as what jcchartboy said I believe him.IDK much about slug guns, but I know this one shoots great!I'm satisfied with my 20ga USH.
