Default Bad Experience!!!!

I'm not going to get into all the details, unless someone makes me , but I will never take another weapon to Gander Mountain for gunsmithing. Gander Mountain was one of my favorite stores to shop at until just a few days ago. I'm 47 years old, and I received the worst customer service I've ever received from any place that I've done business with. I hope all of the Gander Mountains are not as bad as the one in Aurora,Colorado. It makes me sad to loose one of my favorite stores, but thank God for the new Bass Pro Shop they just put in!!!

Please Note: Based on my experience, I would strongly recommend that anyone who needed gunsmithing should choose another place other than Gander Mountain.

I have nothing good to say about Gander Mountain except its a little better now, but in the past it seemed like they were doing you a big favor by helping you. Very customer unfriendly. They will pay now as a Sportmans Warehouse opened 10 miles away, and a new Cabelas is almost completed and will open next month, about 5 miles away.

I suspect that all tolled, there are less than 100 truly decent gunsmiths in the entire coutry! However, there are perhaps thousands of "gun-butchers" out there, who CALL themselves "gunsmiths".

The services of good smiths are in great demand, and even though a few of them may work for outfits like Gander Mountain, the best ones are usually in "private practice".

There is a Gander Mountain near here, and I have had decent service from them. But I don't ask them to work on my guns! If I can't do it myself, I take it to my local guru, Don Horowitcz who has been building custom rifles for about 52 years. If the work is beyond his capabilities, he will tell me to whom it needs to be sent!

I won't say I have had bad customer experience, but they tend to ignore you almost until you get close to them and butt into their co-worker chat in Watertwon, NY. Several times I would have purchased, and good money if they had just taken a little time...... hey there is another sporting goods store in the Mall and they usually wind up with the business!

I took my rem 700 300 ultra mag in to have a muzzle break put on it. They told me it would take about three weeks. Two and a half months later they told me to come and pick it up the next day. The next day they called and said they had ruined the barrel and it would be an inch shorter or they would have to send it off and it woud take another two to three months to get it back, and they could not promise me it would be here by elk season. I called and tried to talk to the asst manager to figure something else out. He talked to me like I was trying to get a free ride or something. He made me so mad the way he spoke to me on the phone. I went down to the store the next morning and made them refund my money and told them they could keep the gun. The next day the gunsmith calls me and tells me that the gun is fine and it really was never ruined, they had just sent him the wrong part. I'm suppose to pick the gun up next week. I really don't know if I'll ever trust the gun again. What really chaps my ass is the way the asst manager talked down to me and treated me like I had done something wrong when it was them that had ruined my gun. The gunsmith was always nice and has apologized numerous times. I never received a call from the store manager even though I know he knows what happened. You just can't keep someones property for a half a year, and if you ruin their property you should replace it. That gun only had about a box of shells shot through it and had killed my biggest bull and my first mule deer last year.

I do know my local Gander Mtn has trouble keeping the gunsmiths there. It is not unusual at all to hear the guys behind the gun counter complaining that the 'smith is late for work or did not show up. For me personal habits reflect the quality of work

I've had a bow and a rifle worked on at Gander in the past. I won't take either to a Gander again for work.[:@]

bringing a gun to gander mountain for any work is about the same as bringing your car to wal mart for a new transmission.
