Default Handi-Rifle opening when shot?

Was curious if any of you that have handi's have ever seen this. When I shoot the rifle it actually opens up a little, like sometimes maybe a quarter of an inch or so and it seams like it is getting worse. The only thing I noticed is the lever that you push down to pop it open is a "little" loose, should this have a spring on it holding it up tight? Tried to call handi and they are on summer shutdown until the 10th. Thanks!

Check out the Greybeard forums, they have a forum just for H&R handi rifles (NEF is the same thing).

I just tried to go to the site, and it seems to be down. I was going to give a link, but I can't open it right now. Maybe later.

Any way, when it is up someone there can probably help you out.

Paul

That's almost like semi-auto. California will soon ban these rifles because of this

As a rule this can be cured by a good cleaning. Many times grit and filings get down in the action. You also must remember to snap them shut briskly. I had one that did it but after a darn good cleaning, it never did it again.

What James ssaid. I have a H&R in .243 that was doing the same thing. Make sure the latch area is clean and free of oil.
