Default trapshooters one eye or 2

This came up when i was trap shooting at the club. Do you shoot with one eye open and the other closed all the way or both eyes open. I am kind of liking the both eyes open idea because last week when i shot i missed only the ones that i stop my swing. The bad thing i found out with the one eye open and one closed is that you cant pick them up fast enough. Thanks

You aim a rifle and point a shotgun. Both eyes opened.

I just took a lesson from a certified instructor a few weeks ago. You can close one eye when mounting the gun and getting it aligned. Once you call for the clay both eyes open. You shouldn't even be looking at the gun technically. I think that is going to take me a while to master though.

Trap is tough if you are a rifle shooter. You have to retrain yourslelf how to shoot since it is a competely different discipline.

If your right eye dominant no issue shooting right handed. Both eyes open.

Sounds as if maybe your like me and left eye dominate and need to shoot right. Its sucks.

That is a pain in the butt, but from what I hear you can use a patch over your left eye. The only problem is it would mess up your depth perception.

I am actually left handed but right eye dominant. I do pretty much everything right handed except write and a few other things. Any sports I do right handed. It's actually a plus because am ambidextrious with most things. The only things I really can't do with both hands is shoot a bow and throw overhand.

I know of an excellent site if you are interested in skeet, trap, or anything else shotgun related.

Paul, when I pistol shoot I sometimes do the pirate thing. I have been experiementing left handed pistol. Shoots ok, in fact I believe if I practiced more, I would be deadly, but feels allwrong.

I used to be right eye dom, until I damaged my right eye sawing down trees.

Paul, if you place a small stick-on label onthe right lense of your shooting glasses, just enough to cover the pupil of the right eye, you will not have any problems with the eye being dominate anymore. You will have 360* peripheral vision from that eye, but not a dominating factor.

Place your right hand index fingerin front ofyour right eye enough to cover the pupil and not your peripheral vision. Now, test yourself again pointing your left index finger at an object. It should be dead on the object!

IMO you should shoot both a rifle and a shotgun with both eyes open.

shotguns always both eyes open for me.....im not trying to toot my own horn but i have a natural talent for busting clays...and most flying game...i dont know why...for a guy my size everyone thinks id be slow and not react quick enough and swing fast enough etc....my buddy and his dad been shootin clays forever....they are into it and bird hunting HARD...i impressed them alot...i think the reason why is because i never look at my gun or try to aim it or anything...when i do i miss...when i swing with the target its busted or i was moving too fast or slow...but if your gun doesnt fit well and shoulder well for you you may have trouble with it..they were out there with their 2000$ o/us and im out there with a mossberg 500..i was used to the gun and it shots well for me...i wish i would started alot younger...with practice i could probably did something with it...pistols its both eyes open too...i tend to kinda point a pistol more then i aim it...scoped rifles on low power its both eyes opened...sites on a rifle i think i shut one eye..and high mag scopes i shut one eye...i was never taught or trained or anything...just how i learned to shoot...i could be doing it all wrong....just what works for me.....
