Building a 35 Whelen Improved
I have a Mauser VZ24 Bruno action that I want to build a 35 Whelen Improved rifle. I want to use 200 - 225 - 250gr bullets. When I order the barrel what twist rate should I get? I will be using the rifle for elk and bear.

RE: Building a 35 Whelen Improved
Nosler recommends 1 in 12 twist. They tested with bullets up to 250 grains. That should work well.

35 whelen twists are all over the map.....Remington uses 1-16!!
I'm with James B here.....if I was building a Whelen it'd be a 1-12

RE: Building a 35 Whelen Improved
A wile back I bought a whelen barrel for a Savage 110, 111, but have not done anything with it yet. It is a 24 inch barrel with a 1:14 twist rate.
