I ran into a very old Remington 760 pump in 30-06, forrend doesn't have checkering just vertical cuts for grip. Bluing is in extremely good shape . Only Drawback is the previous owner drilled the side of the reciever and put one of those old fashioned swing mounts with a redfiedl scope on it. It came tapped from the factory for scope mounts.Price is 225. Do these shoot or is the 7600 a better proposition.

I think the 760 is a better made gun. I have a 760 30-06 and it shoots great. The 7600 is more mass produced and the stock material is usually cheaper. My 760 shoots 1in groups at 100yrds with cheap factory loads.
I just thought of this, if you want to see some guys shoot 760's and 7600's check out benoitbigbucks.com. They make some shots with open sights on deer that are amazing.
old elk, those 760's have 9 locking lugs, the 7600's have a bolt like a 700, there's a reason for it, I wore out one in 243 and retired its replacement for fear of damaging it, if I were you I'd opt for the 7600, its a stronger, more durable setup

When comparing the 7600 to the 760, mathematics would suggest that it's about 10 times better than the 760, right?
Seriously, the only bit of useful information that I can add is that I own a Remington 7600 chamberedin 6mm and it's been a sweet shooter ever since I bought it 18 years ago. Until reading this post, the only difference I was aware of between the 760 and the 7600 was the cosmetic difference.
