Mossbergs rifles are just rebadged Savages.

What's wrong w/ a Savage? Great gun for a great price...

Weatherby Vanguard wouldn't be a bad choice either.

I'd also look at the Remington 700.. I forget which ADL, BDL, CDL... but it's black sythetic w/ blued barrel... bout $400-450 new. Also check out the used rack at your local Gander Mtn or gun store.

I think the mossberg is the old rifle design that a company Raptor Armshad out if Im correct. I think charter arms sold them for awile later on. I saw one of the earlier stainless models under the raptor name and didnt like it. The mossberg seems more refined and for 264.00 from walmart,it might make for a good inexpensiverifle. Just remember you get what you pay for. I noticed a better finish(more polished)and blueing job on the last Savage I saw the other day at walmart. It impressed me. It had a scope and synthetic stock for 369.00 or 389.00. It had the new accutrigger also. Walmarts also has the blued/synthetic weatherby vanguards for 389.99 and the remington matte/synthetic 700 for 369.00. They had the older 700 syntheticthat comes withthe sights still in stock. I havent seen the newer ones fromremington yet. They come with a newer designed stock, no sights and an openingfloorplate to empty out your rounds, unlike the blind magazine on the older model. Walmart has them for under $400....Remingtons at least.....some Mossbergs too.
