Default Carbon Wrapped Barrels vs. Steel

I've been thinking about replacing the barrel on my Ruger M77 7mm Rem. Mag. I really like the carbon barrels, but I have heard that they don't perform as well as advertised. Has anyone had any experience with them. I think Christensen and ABS are the only companies with them. Or I was thinking about putting a medium/heavy steel barrel and fluting it to save a little weight. The gun is mainly used for deer hunting.

Thanks

They are awesome. Done right, carbon can disaapate heat better than steel thru the plates, and more rigid than steel. But doing it right with equal wrappings is the tough part.

Do you recommend any specific company?

Christensen is the only people I have seen people deal with. I myself have not had a barrel turned down and wrapped. But I know people that have and I was impressed. I was very sceptical at first about the heat transfer, but seein was believin. If you got a fine gun that shoots well but heavy, has good throat good rifling, I believe they will turn it down and wrap it. Same as the old gun but took off some lbs.
