Default Chronographed the Taurus 44 Ultralite today

Took the new Ultralite to the range today to check out some loads. I have been using it for carry recently and have been carring it with Blazer 200 Grain 44 Special Loads. These have Speer Gold Dot bullets. They averaged 864 fps and were right on the button at 12 yards which is all I tried due to Gale Force winds. Thses loads for five shots only had an exreme speard of about 9 fps.

Next I checked some loads in 44 Mag cases with LSWC 240 grainers with 8.0 Grains of Unique. A nice mild load which was uniform and clocked at about 870 fps.

Last week I shot some 180 grain PMC 44 Mag loads and the recoil was fierce plus extraction was real sticky. Today I shot five WW Supreme Nosler 250 Grain Partition Gold loads. Thes clocked 1128 from my 4 inch barrel. Recoil was not bad at all even in this 28 OZ gun. I think for carry during deer season, this will be my load unless I can duplicate it with hand loads. Of course I will work up some heavy bullet cast loads to try as well.

Default RE: Chronographed the Taurus 44 Ultralite today

The Taurus is about 250-300 cheaper than the Ultralite S&W. They are a gun to be carried a lot and shot sparingly. The recoil is stout with full power loads but its a joy to carry and if you need the Horse Power, its there. I will shoot 95 percent 44 Special Level loads. I was impressed with the lack of recoil of the WW Supreme Nosler Partitions. For a 250 grain bullet, it was not bad at all to shoot. I have very large hands and the Taurus UL grips are the same size and feel of the Raging Bull Grips. It also has the double lockup for the cylinder like the RB.
