Well first off if your Dad brought home a "true" M-14 which is a selective fire weapon then unless he did the correct paper work and payed the transfer fee or is a class 3 or above dealer then it is an illegal rifle and my addvice would be to turn it in!!!! On the other hand I am sure it is a legal rework or an M1A which is fine. Stripping them is all the same, to get the golt out lay the barreled action up side down on a table and remove the guide rod and recoil spring. If you look at the bottom front of the reciever you will see a pin which goes through the guide rod, compress the spring and push the pin to the side. You can now remove the spring and guide rod but hold on to it or it goes flying. Next, move the opperating handle to the rear putting down ward pressure on it and it will snap into the dissambly notch. Rotate the opp. rod outwards and it will clear the bolt which now can be fiddled with and removed.
