Get the remington to site in the scope then buy several different loads to see which one your gun likes best.

deerhunter, those savages shoot about anything very well in my experience. I like federal ammo and Ilove hornady. I don't own a 30.06 though, just lots of others.

I'd buy whatever costs less to start.....if you shoot it well then stick with it.....if not try something else.

For zeroing in my rifle I used the Federal"™s American Eagle brand, it is the cheapest in my view Federal"™s line of ammo. I"™m strictly Federal Cartridge fan anyway.

I bought core-lokts to break in my last 2 new guns...but the sad part is that was the best shooting ammo and the cheapest. No complaints here from them. Work very nicely on deer also.

I think for deer sized animials with a 30-06, what bullet weight you use is more important than the brand of the ammo.

I'd use 165 grain bullets on deer and never look back!

i personally had bad expiriences with core lokts....165 gr pointed soft points...i hate to admit it but i lost deer over them..but it was partially my fault.....the scope on my gun was broken at the time and we didnt know it...when id adjust the power the crosshairs moved...but it sighted in fine becuase i left it on the highest power..it was a tasco shotgun scope..so high power wasnt high...but it had a better fov on 2.5x or so...so thats where i hunted with it....october special youth doe season comes...nothing was happening..all the sudden a doe trots down the trail....bah! she stops..WHAMMM she jumped and took off....me and dad seen the hair messed up....not a great hit but it was right behind the base of the neck right in that region....waited a while.....took up the track...VERY VERY faint almost no blood trail....and it dried up QUICK.....i was sick...that happend at like 9am....we didnt quit till the sun went down....went to the range....shot fine...i was POED at myself...im a way better shot then that...rifle season comes...HUGE HUGE cow sized doe steps out at first light....WHAMMM she trots off and turns around and looks at me.....my dad yells you missed! dont shot again! go look....yep..clean miss.....WTF....a week later....another doe comes by....WHAM...dad was a 100yds away or so...she ran by him and he thought i missed again.....wish i did...ONE drop of blood...that was IT...granted...these were ALL poor hits...ill admit it.....something i had no control over....all would been DEAD deer with a good scope....i didnt know it was broke....i quit deer hunting and gave dad the scope to put on a slug gun he was setting up.....he likes to have the gunshop mount his scopes just so he knows its done right and all square and level...the guy checked the scope before putting it on and showed my dad how the crosshairs moved....he said it was rediculous...BUT...i dont even think the ammo was passing through....there should been alot more blood then a few drops from a 3006 at 30-50yds......so i went back to shooting premium ammo and a leupold scope.....most deer drop on the spot now....even the ones i put in the head...one year i was hurtin for cash so i bought winchester 165gr power points...same price as corelockts....and drilled 3 deer with them...all 3 dropped on the spot.....one was facing me dead on...he hit the ground the hardest...and the bullet exited...another one was facing me at an angle....in one shoulder out the other...leg dangling by a few hairs...dropped on the spot with a huge wound channel and pass through......3rd one was a double lunger...went down for the count...all pass throughs..no problems......groundhog hunting with 150gr corelockts showed me that they are kinda violent...my friend shoots a 260 rem with light wieght ballistic tips and my bullets do the SAME damage as his....rips them apart...i hit one in the head at 50yds and it was missing when i got there.....but this year i headshot a deer(same 50yd distance) with a wincherster supreme ballistic silvertip..the bullet barely opend....deer hit in the back of the head between the ears..out just bellow the eye...dropped on the spot....exit hole was about dime or nickle sized......everyone says ballistic tips are nasty and blow up etc....i beg to differ....i watched dad drill a good number of deer with them and he drops them all.....if they run they dont make it far....and there BLOOD to follow!!!! when i was shooting federal premium sierra BTSP 165gr i had a perfect heart shot go 50yds....you needed hipboots to cross the blood trail....and the others i shot with sierra 165 gr HPBTs dropped or ran a short distance...again all exits and a GOOD blood trail.....i dont know why corelokts performed bad for me.....i know they werent great hits but they should still make a deer bleed!! i know ill bleed anywhere im hit with one! lol.......they wokr great for everyone else......ill just never shoot them again....unless im burning it up on the groundhog field....

For deer, you are wasting your $ if you purchase premium ammo. Remington corelokts and winchester powerpoints will kill deer just as fast, and are much cheaper.

I personally prefer 150 gr for whitetail. You're gonna get an exit wound with a 30-06 99.9% of the time, regardless of bullet weight.

150 gr will recoil less, and the extra velocity will give you flatter trajectory and more shock.

I shoot 150 gr corelokts in my 30-06 and 150 gr powerpoints in my 308.

good luck

In my 7600 30-06, I use the Federal 150 grain Blue Box ammo. They are loaded with 150 gr. Speer Grand Slams. They worked very well and were very accurate in my gun. The Corlokts have worked perfect for me as well for many years and have probaby taken more big game than any other bullet ever made.
