Default easy gun cleaning process

hey....i bought a universal gun cleaning kit (i know some people dont like them but it is just what i could get right now). what is the easiest way to clean a gun. I have all the parts, it just didnt give instructions and i have actually never done it b4. I dont need any fanzy techniques or anything, just a few quick steps that will serve to clean my shotgun or rifle. Thanks alot.

All i do is clean the barrel and oil the trigger, and once a year take it to a gunsmith to give it a full cleaning.

Look at the user manual that came with your gun. It will tell you all you need to know.

Do not put oil in the trigger assembly as it will attract dust and it could gum up and not operate properly.

In re: to WD-40, once the solvent in it evaporates, you're left with asticky resin-like substance that can gum things up. I'd rather use a light oil specifically designed for guns.

I do not understand why the bias against WD-40, I have never had one problem with WD-40. My Remington 1100 has always been cleaned with WD-40 - - I bought that shotgun when I sold a 4-H steer back when I was 14, I am now more than three times that age and my 1100 has always performed without issue. I have had quite a few guns come and go through my fingers and they were all maintained with WD40 Maybe some one can explain why WD-40 is a bad thing. To me I have never seen any evidence to the contrary, just personal dislikes and that is fine.

Respectfully
