Default colt 1903 refinish

I know that is a bad word saying colt 1903 and refinishat the same time, but I have reason. I bought a 1903 from a live auction and didn't realize it had someone's drivers license engraved, or should I say scractched, into the side of the frame. Well no one else is dumb enough to buy it so I decided to at lest make it look better. It was missing most of the bluing anyways. It was also pretty dinged up. I was wondering if I should grit blast it and make it a mat finish to cover up the abuse or if I should polish it and give it a high gloss finish that would highlight the abuse. It came from the factory as high gloss. Is there a good kit I can use at home or should I dump more money into a noncollector and have it professionally done?

Default RE: colt 1903 refinish

If it is really a dog on the outside but good inside, I would get it restored if I had the bucks. Not many Colts being made these days, and not the 1903 either.
