Default Howa rifles

What do you all think of howa rifles. My buddy just purchased a Howa 1500 thumbhole sporter in7mm remwith the nutmeg stock and stainless barrel. I'm not a big fan of stainless but its one sharp looking rifle. he topped it with a 3-9 burris and i watched him shoot it today. It totally amazed me. He was cutting holes after we got it zeroed in. i know howa isnt a popular brand and i hadn't even heard about it till he purchased one but they look pretty impressive to me. What do you all think of howa products? Are they quality or are they junk?

Dern good stuff.....except for one little detail.....the action has metric threads in the receiver ring making it difficult for those of us that have english thread chasing lathes to rebarrel them.

Pretty minor issue one would think.....

I have a 6.5-284 built on a howa action . . My gun smith talked me into it and I have never regretted it. It is very strong and smooth action ,he said it is basiclly a rem. 700 with minor bolt modifcations.I wouldnt be afraid of it if I were him or you.Good luck

Howa makes an excellent action.

They actually manufactured Weatherby's action for awhile. I'm not sure if they still do or not.

They are very accurate weapons.

The metric thing is kind of a hassle if you ever want to rebarrel the action as mention previously.

howa manufacture the weatherby vanguards on roy's behalf. in fact, the vanguard action is basically a modified version of the howa action. and for those who can remember back to the early 80's, what is now called howa used to be the Smith and Wesson action. not sure, but i think the whole thing is a copy of the old Sako action from early 70's.

anyway, the howa's are a naturally very accurate set-up, ata good price. you could do a lot worse.
