Default Wich recoil pad?

I have finally realized that i definitely need a better recoild pad for my remington 870 12g. I shot 5 turkey loads yesterday and today i could barely move my arm when i woke up. everyone i have talked to has said that the recoil pads they put on in the factory dont really help much. Does anyone have a favorite recoil pad?

On a shotgun I'd put a pachmayr on. The SIMS is a great pad but the rubber isstickyso if you want fast shouldering with a variety of outer wear I think the pachmayr maybethe better choice for shotgun. Both are excellent and work the same IME.

I hear of guys taping their sims pads with electrical or similarto remove the gripping tendancy.

The sims is great at reducing recoil, but the decellerator does a great job as well.

If you're concerned with looks I'd go with the Pachmyer Decelerator. I've found that they grind better than the Sims and produce a better looking pad in less time. Both work equally well but I'll only install the Sims on special request and charge a little extra for it since they're so soft I've got to freeze them before grinding them down in order to make sure the edges stay "crisp".

I have the decellerator on all of my rifles. They seem easier to shoulder and more durable as well.

I put a sims on my winchester 1300 and now I can shoot winchester supreme high velocity 3" magnum turkey loads all day long. Before I put it on I was cringing after about 4 shots off the bench. I have one on my Encore .375 H&H magnum also. It has synthetic stock and is hollow with no weight to help in recoil. I put a sims on It and it really reduced felt recoil. You can get a prefit sims for just about any major brand of rifle or shotgun which eliminates the grinding hassle. There should be a prefit for your 870 readily available. They also have slip ons if you need one for an oddball stock design. Cabelas has some good prices and their shipping isnt sky high. The cheapest shipping is $6.75.

Well I don't have any experience w/ the Pachmyer Decelerator.. I've had great luck w/ the Limbsavers pads. They do have prefit pads for most of the popular guns on the market. The new Remington R3 pad that comes on most of the newer Remingtons is just a private label limbsaver pad. You'll spend a little more $$$ for the prefit pads over the grind to fit... but it does look a little better.
