SCOPE FOR A .22

Hey geys, Im just wondering what a good scope would be to put on a bolt action .22 Its not a 22 mag and my shots will typically bebetween 25-80 yards with the maximum shot being around 100 yards.

I have had this gun for 9 years andI got thinking the other day of why I never put a scope on it. I love this gun and I want to get better groups with it.
I am not looking to spending hundreds and hundreds of dollars on this scope either. What are my options?

Without a doubt I will recommend a Simmons .22 Mag scope. That's what it's called. Straight 4X. I have two on some of my Ruger 10/22's and my brother has one on his 10/22.

TONS of rounds thru these things and never a problem. Plenty large objective dia for a .22 and I feel the Simmons .22 Mag offers superb clarity.

Choose a finish of Matte Silver (#511033)MatteBlack (511022 or Gloss Black (511070). About $50 new, but I wouldn't really hesitate to shop ebay. My brother got his there for under $20 with a nice set of ringsand 2 factory 10/22 rotary mags. It works great.

Simmons offer these invariable power (3-9X) but (IMO) I can't see how that would be necessary unless it's competition.

agree fix power 4x is the way to go. you dont need a scope for a 100+yards when the AVERAGE 22 shot is less than 50. hell probly around 30ish. Stick with the fixed scope.

I have to agree. You can't go wrong withthe fix Simmon.22 mag scope. I have one on mine and it's been great. It went throughthousands ofrounds and it's been drop and bump so many times I can't remember but it isstill zero where I had it. There are others out there but have heard some bad stuff about them so I would stick with the Simmons, as they are in a good price range and are durable.

I 'm in the camp of putting a 3-9x on a 22LR. The extra power comes in handy when ole' bushytail is trying yo hide on you 50 yards away and the only shot presented is an eye ball and ear.
You don't have to so for big $ , something like a tasco pronghorn or the like.

My Friend, don't settle for a cheap scope. I agree that you don' nessecarily need a variable, but you need to make sure that it can focus and is parallax free at short distances. Tasco and Simmons make a decent scope for the money. But if you will just spend some more, you can get a pretty good scope. I really like the Weaver variable scope for .22. It is a 28mm scope in a 2-7 power. It is made in ***an and the optics are very good with quality coatings. I have been very satisfied with mine. I think you can pick up one for about 110 or 120 bucks. Also check out scopes from burris and leupold. But for these 22 scopes you will pay 300 bucks. If you go with a fixed power, nikon, leupold, sightron, and IOR all make a great 4x32 scope and all are from 150-300 bucks
