Default .22 semi-auto

I'm looking for a Semi-auto 22 rifle. I like the 10/22 but the Marlin Model 60 also looks good. I like the tubular mag with 15 shoots. I'm going to use it for plinking. In the future I will buy a 17 HMR for accuracy. Just looking for a auto rimfire that will last forever and feed correctly. Do not want to spend to much. Thanks in advance.

You cannot go wrong with the 10/22.
It is a gun with many aftermarket parts available.
You can add to the rifle as you outgrow it.

i agree with the 10/22, but personally I would go with the marlin 60, due to the 10/22 jamming with certain ammo, and if you are plinking you want to use cheap ammo, therefore the marlin 60 is good, but I think it shoots better than a factorry 10/22

i agree i would pick the marlin. i have a 10/22 and i kept it stock banking on the reason i bought a gun i dont really need to make it sumin else which is what seems to be the big thing with the rugers. it fine not bad-mouthing it just not really what im into. and i have an oddly high amount of jams with it. and i really havent found an ammo that doesnt jam. i have even gotten 2 jammed at the same time. took the gun completly down cleaned and oiled it and sent the mag back to ruger for inspection and cleaning got it back from ruger with a note saying fincitons properly and cleaned it good luck. well they lied. it jammed honest with in the first 5 shots.ive only had a little experiene with the tube fed marlins but all experiences were positive. i would favor the marlin just from my past experience.

I personally, stay away from the tubular fed magazines because I don't feel they are safe. I knew a guy that was a very avid shooter/outdoorsmen. He had a tubular fed 22lr that clicked, he thought it was empty, he goes to reload it, it decides to fire (coulda been the gun or faulty ammo, no one is sure).....struck him in the chin area, an lodged in his brain. Not a very good way to leave the world.

Get you the ruger 10/22 and you can get 10-20-30-50 rounds mags for it.... who needs 15 when you got 50 =)

I like my Marlin.....accurate and reliable.

The 10-22 has a lot of positive posts all over the internet. However Ruger is not spoken here.

Your FRIEND isn't safe, it has nothing to do with the gun. He should have checked to see if it was loaded before he put his face infront of the muzzle. I think the new ones might have a last shot bolt hold open any way. I'm not sure though.

Marlins are nice for the money, but if you want to play with it you can't beat the 10/22. They make a million after market parts for it.

I also had a Henry lever action I liked a lot and it was under 200 bucks. One of the most accurate .22 I have owned right out of the box.

I was just making the point that with a Ruger 10/22 your head never has to be anywhere NEAR the muzzle when reloading it.

My friend wasn't safe just one time, as that accident ended his life.
