Can anyone tell me the difference between the Rem. 798 and 700.

The 798 and the 799has a mauser action it is the old charles daly mauser. Remington is now selling them. I wish Charles Daly still made them when they did they had one off the nices stocks out there. Remington put a junk stock that looks like $hit and up the price, So much for a nice gun Remington strikes again to bad.............

Is a mauser action better than the regular Remmington action? What are the main differences of the two actions?

There are many Mauser actions. Some are good strong actions and some are not. The Remington 700 action is as stong as any of them and in my book, just as good. I have several of each.

to methe mauser action is the best made the big diff. is the mauser has a claw extracter the the bullet and the 700 does not. If you can find the Charles Daly I would buy it first there are still a few left that you can buy before they run out. good luck
