Default 870 vs. Benelli Nova

I haven't owned a shotgun for about 12 years. I love the pump action and there is only about a $50 difference. What do ya guys think would be the best for the bucks ??

thier both great, I like the benelli but the 870's reputation is undeniable. You dont loose either way. EJ

Well, you can look like a first rate space cadet with the nova. The name suits it. I have handled some of the novas. Maybe feel smoother than a 870. But you can get 870's for 205 dollars NIB every once in a while. The 870 has never failed me.

870 wins hands down. It's the best tried and true shotgun ever made.

I have both of them...2 870's and a Nova. I can't stand the Nova. It just sits in the gun cabinet at home. On the other hand...the 870 goes hunting with me everytime I need a shotgun.

I would pick the 870 as well. I looked at both and didn't care much for the nova. I actually ended up getting a youth model mossberg because it fit my needs better.

As a far as the 870 and a wing master go, from an enginering standpoint they use the same parts, but they are not the same guns. I ask this at a local gun shop when looking for my shotgun. I said isn't the wingmaster just a prettier version of the 870? They laughed at me and took me over to the counter to look at a wingmaster and some brownings. MUCH nicer actions on the more expensive shotguns. I have a buddy that has an 870 special purpose turkey gun that has a pretty nice action as well.

The one thing going for the nova is that it will shoot 3 1/2 inch loads I think. I just didn't care for the way looked and felt.

I love my Nova. You cant beat the price and relaiability, only one thing if you end up using the Benelli for a slug gun go Remington, a rifled barrel will set you back close to $350. AllIwill say say they are both goodguns, i just had my heartset on the nova!!

Nova looks and feels cheap but the 870 has been a proven weapon for many years now i would go 870 anyday!!!

I had problems with my nova feeding 3.5'' shells and the dam forearm rattles bad I would go with the 870
