Default 416 win mag. OUCH!!

I was at the range this evening and a cannon went off next to me.
The guy had his ammo box and I could clearly see that the shells were huge. I asked what caliber the gun was and he told me it was a 416 Win Mag.

Man every time the gun went off It shook me. I asked what he was planning on hunting with it and he said he just got it for Christmas and was going to go for Cape Buffalo in Africa hopefully this year. He asked if i wanted to shoot it and i said that i did.
I'm used to shooting my 270, 30-30 and 243. I did shoot a few rounds out of a 300 wby Mag once and i thought that was alot. Heck no it wasn't. The 300 wby mag felt like a 22 compared to this gun. This is not a range gun and this guy blew of f a whole box no problem.
What a powerful gun

No joke, these guns are not to be shot lightly. Don't grip it tight enough, and you'll get a nice monocle imprint from the scope. There's some cartridges I can't even figure out how some people shoot, such as the 460. weatherby magnum.

It's indeed shootable. Nothing wrong with that round at all. Do not inticipate the recoil, you'll be just fine.

Pull the trigger. You know it's going to kick. Take it on.

You got to know how to shoot those bad boys. I don't shoot one of the bench. I shoot standing with the gun resting maybe on a sandbag. This helps alot. Also, there's alot of muscle memory going along with it.

I was thinking the same thing. I have shot a 416 rem mag, and it wasn't too bad. But, could you imagine a 700 nitro express? A 1,000gr .70 cal slug at 2,000 fps. Now that would be a a heavy recoiling gun.

I had a 416 Rem mag as well. It has about 53 lbs of recoil as compared to 18 lbs for a 30-06. Mine was a Ruger Number One.

Yeah, was probably a Rem Mag. I thought he said Win.
He had iron sights on it so i didn't have to contend with a scope smacking me in the head.
It was fun to shoot, once maybe twice but then it would be no fun for me.
