Default model 70 pre 64 help

I am going to be getting a 1960 model 70 fwt 30'06 that has an aftermarket recoil pad on it. Can someone tell me what the factory pad would have been on such a rifle. Red pad, metal plate or Black plastic plate? Is there a black spacer ?

Don't know about the 1960 version. I had a .308 FWT, and it had an aluminum buttplate, no recoil pad. Don't recall what year it was made, though. I think some of the later ones hadplastic buttplates-none of the FWT'shad a Win. factory recoil pad-recoil pads were put on some of the larger caliber standard & Super Grade rifles, such as the .375 H&H Super Grade I once owned....

Has the stock been shortened to install the recoil pad ?
If it has, it may present a bit of a problem concerning the fitting of an original buttplate, along with the length of pull (LOP). Just a thought---

My ~1962 Model 70 had a black plastic buttplate. The two older 70's I had (just postwar standardweights, I believe) had checkered steel buttplates with a "V" at the top which was inletted into the stock.
