I had a new 270 this year. To new to get any loads worked up. I bought some Federal Fusion 130 grain loads. I shot 7 Mule deer with them this season so far. They grouped under one inch (3 shots) in my gun. One shot was just a finisher for a friend as it was hit but about to get accross the fence from my land. All were one shot kills. Four went down in their tracks. Two ran about 25 yards. (Both lung shots) The entrance holes were about the size of a quarter and the exit holes( all exited) were like the size of a tennis ball. Damage was good but not excessive.
A freind took two with the 243 Fusion loads (95 grain) One was a lung shot that exited and did good damage inside. The other was a steep angle shot that broke five ribs, went through the lungs then was recovered under the skin in the neck.
I wondered how may others have tried these bullets and how they worked in different calibers.
In Outdoor Life there was a artical on different bullets and they rated them as good for both deer and Elk. I have only used them for deer so far.
I hope they come out with this bullet as a component sometime soon. Maybe Speer could expand their Gold Dot line of pistol bullets to the rifle side. Same technology.

I was impressed for a factory load. Both with the accuracy and performance. When it comes to factory loads they are priced pretty good too. They are 20.00 even for the 270 WSM. They only come in 150 grains so far for the WSM.
Thanks Rammer that would be good. There is a lot of competition out there if factory loads. I think once the word spreads about the Federal Fusions, they will be pretty popular. I am leaning toward using them in most of my rifles for hunting. I will try the 308's next.
I was wondering how they will hold up if used on a black bear. Where I hunt there is always a possibility of a bear, and I like to be prepared for one.
Bill
Federal claims that are are suitable for elk. Therefore they should handle black bear as well. I wouldn't hesitate to use them for Bear. The heavier ones per caliber would probably be the best way to go.
