Default Hunting with Military surplus

Anybody hunting with an old military gun? I have a Mosin Nagant in 7.62X54 and I swear its better than any .30-06 but thats my opinion. My Hog gun is a Korean rifle (AR-100)that accepts M-16 clips and rounds. also got a MAK-90 sporter that looks like a AK-47 and accepts the same clips and rounds. the AR-100 is chamberedin .223. The MAK-90 is camberedin 7.62x39.Both of them are semi-autos and the MosinNagant is a Russian Sniper rifle (Bolt action)

I picked up a CETME in November, but I've only been able to take it hunting once. I plan on taking it hog hunting during the holidays.

I've used an M1 Garand 1 year and a K98 on another. My eyes are going to pot, so unless I get lasik done, I won't be hunting with them again.

I hunt some with a Remington Model A3-03 and a K98 Mauser. The Mauser actual feels better shooting but the Remington is my baby. I use the original peep and post iron sights.

I've used, over the years, an 1896 Mauser, a No4MkI Lee-Enfield, a 577-.450 Martini Henry, an 1873 Trapdoor Springfield carbine, a 91/30 Mosin-Nagant sniper, and a 1917 Enfield.
Think I'll use a MAS 49/56 for pigs next month.

I just took a hog with my k98 german mauser last saturday. I also use mosin nagants, enfields, other mausers, and aswiss k-31. They are all powerful enough for all but the more extreme or dangerous hunts. Some people shy away from them but hey, the 45/70 and 30'06 are two of the oldest hunting rounds around and they are both originally military rounds.

From 35-50 years ago the most common rifle seen in Canadian deer & moose camps was a surplus Lee Enfield, in .303 British. Although not as common now there is not many larger camps that don't have at least one.

I don't see anything wrong with using military rifles as long as they are legal where you live (capacity constraints). I would not suggest using military surplus ammo though. There is better ammo available for hunting then FMJ ball ammo. Unless you shoot at armor plated deer.

I hunted with a No4 enfield and a M96 swedish mauser this year, both took a deer. I've reloaded .308 ballistic tops in the enfield with good success. I also took out a K31 shmidt rubin but didn't see anything the day I took it out.
