Default S&W 500 Mag - New Law for MS Hunting Good Caliber ???

Mississippi passed a new law this year allowing a different type of gun to be used during Primitive Weapon Season. Modern Metallic rounds ( does not have to contain black powder in cartiridge)in 38 caliber or larger can be used as long at the weapon is a single shot, breech loading, exposed hammer, and pre 1900 design ( rolling block, high wall, trap door, etc. ) Well - New England Arms makes a very affordable approved rifle called the Handi Rifle that meets the requirements ( I called the Jackson, MS Dept of Wildlife, Game, and Fish to verify approval). The officer I spoke with was very helpful and told me that the calibers I could use were 38-55, 44, 45-70, and 500 S&W Mag.. Well I bought a 500 mag and now I need to know,,, WHAT is thebest bullet for the 500 S&W Mag for Whitetail Deer. I really like the selection that Cor-Bon offers and their company name speaks for itself. Thanks for the help.

Those loads should work well. You have a rifle in the same classs as the 45-70. I may get that barrel for one of my Handi Rifles if they offer it as a accessory barrel. I have a couple of them in 45-70. Also 44 Mag, 357 Mag and 7mm-08. You will like the Handi and may find yourself getting more barrels for yours. Good Luck.

Unfortunately it's not a loophole. The whiz bang geniuses in Mississippi that make up the hunting regulations thought they would allow centerfire rifles to be allowed during the primitave weapons season this year.

We hashed this ruling out a little while back.

Now as for the 500 S&W.... It should be a super deer thumper. My bullet selection would be Corbons 325 grain Barnes XPB, assuming they shoot good for you.
