Default Simmons Aetec scopes?

I am asking Santa Clause to bring me anew Simmons master class Aetec 2.8-10x44 illumnated reticle matte black scope for Xmas to top off my 300 win mag. I do not know much about the Simmons scopes but it looks nice. Does anyone have one of these? I am wondering what is thought of this scope. We cannot afford a Leupold or a Nikon this season!

I currently own 4. I have them on the following rifles. (2) 7mmremmags 1 25-06 and 1 on my muzzleloader. I cannot afford $4-500 for a scope either thats why I picked the BEST SCOPE UNDER $200!!!!! Hands down!!! Unbelievable light at dusk/dawn!!!!

I don't know about the new ones, they just recently changed them but the previous models were great scopes of the money.

Same here. The old ones are great. I have yet to try the new ones but I would guess that they will remain a good scope for the money. The new ones however are getting into the VX-l pricerange.

If you do a google for simmons aetec master class there are a couple places that sell them for cheap.

I have a magazine that has the 2.8-10x44 illumnated reticle for 219 but the website has it for 188... Are they on par with any of the leupolds?

Optics wise I think they are as good as the lower priced Leupolds, but I'm not that impressed with the cheaper leupolds for the price anyway.

You can't beat them for customer service warranty though. (leupold) They are not as good as the more expensive models though. If you want good optics you need to spend money, pure and simple. Don't expect to buy a $200 simmons and have it be as good as a 300-600 dollar leupold, it just isn't gonna happen. But that holds true for any other scope maker as well.

I think Paul summed up the comparisons perfectly...

I agree that the Simmons Aetec is one of the bests scopes that you can get under 200.00! I've heard that the new models are hard to find though.
I also agree that you can't really compare the Aetec with the more expensive models! I also believe that you won't get 5 times the scope, for 5 times the money, either!

New models are having a problem staying together. Chinese optics and firearms are a no-no for me
