Default M1 carbine as brush gun...I knew I would..

... get some people riled. As to it not having enough power, I guess the deer I killed with it yesterday and all of the men killed with it in several wars haven't read those stats!

Deer are poached with .22 rimfire rifles. That doesn't make the .22 LR a deer cartridge. The same can be said for the .30 Carbine. Its ballistics are inferior to the .357 Magnum, and that round is IMO condemned for use on deer.

well i guess i'm one of only few people that agree with you there man. i would use my m1 for florida deer but i don't have to since i have a 44 mag carbine thats as small if not smaller than the m1. but they are fun to shoot one way or another.

Just goes to show that if something goes bang someone is going to be inspired to try and take a deer with it. [:'(]

I have never had a problem with someone hunting with a weaker cartridge as long it's legal. Be it a M1, SKS, 410 or a handgun. Heck I bow hunt and that is about as weak as you can get. Then again I limit my shots to 30 yards and practice alot.

Is what I don't like is when they don't take into consideration what weapon they are using. Many of these weapons will work just fine with the right ammo and not over estimating the potential of the weapon.

Will an M1 or a .357 work on deer, sure it will as long as you have good shot placement, decent ammo for the job and keep your shots to a reasonable range. If you think you are going to take down a 250lb deer at 100 yards or so with one you might be unpleasantly suprised.

It's too bad you can't regulate peoples common sense. Maybe there should be a test for it before you get a hunting permit? Like a small test to see how much knowledge you have of the game you are hunting or the weapons you are using. However some of the people in charge of it don't really know either.

Paul

I just don't understand the point of trying to hunt with the smallest, weakest calibers possible! As said, a .22 LR will take deer, under the perfect conditions! Hell, a well throw rock will too! It doesn't make it right!
We owe it to the sport, and the fine animals we hunt, to match the gun to the game for WORST CASE conditions, not for perfect conditions!

There is no comparison between a broadhead kill the way a bullet kills. When is the last time you saw a 110 grain 30 caliber bullet go all the way through a 5 gallon bucket of sand?
