so im planning on asking for a new rifle for white tailed deer. i have it narrowed down to 3. Ruger M77 with walnut stock and blued barrel in 7mm Rem. Mag.. then a Remington 700 synthetic w/ blued barrel in .270. and lastly Mossberg ATR in .270.
Currently i have a Remington 700 in 25-06 with the heavy varmint barrel. This is a very accurate gun but it is just a load for me to carry walkin up the mountains. Especially when i get one it just is a B***h to carry out. I also Have the currently discontinued Mossberg SSI-One in 30-06 which is the single shot. i know it would be a great rifle but the trigger is so sticky. Now i am looking for something new for my arsenal and just something to get and have fun with for christmas...i would like to hear a few opinions. or maybe some other reccomendations.
btw i LOoooovvvvveee my 25-06 it is so great to shoot and so accurate. i love it. i was looking for something similar with a little more size and maybe more punch to it...i havent seen many guns around here atleast in the.280 remington...and i dont really know much about Savage...if someone could give me avice there are plenty of them which open my horizons. i actually just saw a very nice, not to expensive Weatherby Vanguard in 30-06 i think...it was beautifull...im still looking for some more information about now all 5 (Remington 700,Ruger M77 in 7mm rem. mag, savage,Weatherby in 30-06, or the .280) i love guns and this is what i want...
please let me know what u guys think so that i can let the buyer know...i just want something accurate and versatile. no matter of kick or weight
Don't forget to take a look at the Browning A-Bolts and the Tikka T-3s. If you go with a Savage, get the AccuTrigger. Some Ruger M77s shoot great, while others don't. I've had 2 that didn't shoot, and their triggers aren't anything to brag about.
Look at the Ruger No. 1A's. Light, handy and accurate. Plus they come in a variety of calibers, including the great 7X57mm Mauser and the .270 WIN. You can also get it in.30/'06 if you want even more power than the 7X57 or .270 provides. However, in the lower 48, either of these two calibers is plenty!
i have totally given up on repeaters of any stripe, because I have discovered in about 50 years of hunting that I rarely need or even GET a chance for an instantaneous second shot. The single shot reloads plenty fast enough for me.

are there any other single shots that u might reccomend that arent quite so expensive...im about a 500$ limit
Yes. Look at the NEF (New $England Firearms) single shots or the H&R's. Both are break-action, based on a single-barrelshotgun design, but are beefed up to shoot HP rifle ammo and they are chambered for some pretty good big-game rounds. They have hardwood stocks, aren't too elegant looking, but have scope mounts. Theseare pretty serviceable, accurate, too, I've read! They only cost about half the price of a Ruger No. 1.
that does look like a nice gun... would u guys say that single shots are the most accurate? and also have u had any bad reviews about the Ruger m77. i was lookin also at the 673 guide rifle...? any good...any information? one more ? how much about is a Franchi model 712?.. let me know...i need toknow all of this soon i like the look of the guide rifle...have u had any good things with those?
