What caliber for deer hunting
I have decided to go with the savage 110, but not too sure on what caliber. I will be deer hunting and varmit hunting. Maybe black bear. Most of my shots will be from 100 to 200 yards. Occasionally 300 and 400yds. I am looking for a caliber that is very accurate. I have thought about the .308, but not sure. Any suggestions?

Hi Crump: Varmints to Blackies is alot to ask of a caliber. What kind of scope are you envisioning for this project? If you areplanning on alot of varminting/range time, I would say the .308 is theway to go as ammunition should cost considerably less than most other "big game" legal calibers. In fact, Midway is selling the Federal Speer Grand Slam (150gr) for less than $8/box!!! (better hurry though). Otherwise Wolf "stuff" is about $4.50/box.
Good luck,

If you are going to stay within 100-200 yards the .308 will do more than enough, even the .30-30! Now if you are going to occasionally be shooting at 300-400yds, I would go with the 7mmSTW or the 7mm Mag which would do good at all these yardages you want!
