Default What grain for 22-250!!!

What grain should I use in my 22-250 when I mainly shoot coyotes with it? I still want good velocities and I will regularly be shooting out to 400 or 500 yds.

You will want to shoot the heaviest bullet that your gun will shoot accurately. If you have the standard 1 in 14" twist that will probably limit you to 50-52 grain bullets. I have not had any luck shooting 55 grain bullets with that particular twist rate. You need to get out and do some shooting to find out for sure. Good luck.

If you handload? I have had great luck with Sierra 52-grain Hollow Point Boattail MatchKings. The Matchking bullet was designed to shoot paper. I have used them with greatresults on coyote, fox, prairie dogs & gophers.

There are a lot of good coyote bullets for this caliber, but if you are going to be shooting at 400 or 500 yards - you want the bullet with the highest ballistic coefficient possible. In the 1:14 twist common to the .22-250, this would be a 55 gr. Nosler Ballistic Tip, 55 Gr. Hornady V-Max, or 55 gr. Sierra Blitzking. Of the three, I would prefer the Sierra by a slight margin.

The 45 grain bullet leaves the barrel at just over 4000 FPS and a coyote at 700 yards can't out run it!
Get a big scope though! I use the Speer 70 grain bullet with a good dose of IMR-4320 for about 3500 for deer out to 300 yards.
