Default New Gun ??

I just bought a Ruger M77 (Old style with tang safety) in6mm Rem. It came with a 50mm 5 x 20 Tasco Mag scope. I picked it up for $400.00.

Who can tell me about the gun.......scope.......calibre? What are some pros and cons with this gun that I need to watch for? Did I get a good deal?

Thanks in advance.

The 6 mm is equivalent to the .243 Win. They both shoot the same bullet but different cartridge. This caliber is good for varmint and deer hunting. As for the other questions, sorry can"™t help.

The rifle is superior to the scope

6mm is a good caliber for deer and varmint and the scope should be good but id trade the gun for a remington 700

Ya know, the 6mm goes misunderstood most of the time. I have a 243 and love it but after seeing the difference in the book and after shooting one, the 6 is slightly better, but ever so slightly. The twist rate is different, 1 in 9 I think. The 243 will do anything the 6mm will do but with factory ammo way more available! EJ

With the same bullets, the 6MM is about 100-150 fps faster than the .243! Either one, with good 100 gr. bulletsmakes an excellent minimum caliber deer gun! The 6MM Rem. started life later than the .243 Winchester, as the .244 Rem. It had a slower twist rate than the .243, and was not as accurate. It was reborn as the 6MM Remington, with the same rifling as the .243, making it as good, or better than the .243! But, its reputation had been sealed, and it never gained the popularity of the Winchester.
So, ammo availability could be a slight factor with the 6MM.
As for Tasco scopes, I'll never own another one! I'd ditch the scope for a better one ASAP!
