Break Free is a great light oil - good as a preservative inside the bore and out, but not so much as a cleaner. There are a lot of better products. I use Shooter's Choice as an all-around cleaner, and Sweet's 7.62 as a more agressive bore cleaner - only when necessary. Butch's is also a pretty good bore cleaner that a lot of shooters speak highly of, but that I have not personally tried except in a muzzle loader.

Breakfree CLP- Cleans, lubricates, protects- does all three except none of them very well, with the exception of lubrication.

Better off using something made for cleaning- Hoppes No 9, Hoppes Elite, Outers Bore foam, Butches, Sweets, etc
Better off using a real protectant- besides grgeases like cosmoline or RIG, the best I've found is Birchwood Casey SHeath.

CLP works pretty good as a lube, but then again so does Mobil 1 motor oil and is cheaper to boot.

Another thing about using Break Free as a rifle bore cleaner - if you fire the rifle without using some sort of solvent to get rid of all the break free oil in the barrel first, the gun will usually shoot poorly for four or five shots - and may show signs of high pressure as well.
