Default stainless barrel

I am getting a rifle(first one) And was going to go with the stainless barrel. I was wondering what your veiws are on the stainless scaring off the deer when sunlight etc hits it. I have been getting mixed reviews from people I've talked to.

A properly bead blasted stainless barrel or action will not cause glare in sunlight. On the other handan oiledblued barrel will.

If you are really concerned about spooking game, you could also oxide blast the barrel with #120. It creates a dead flat gray surface that isn't as pretty as bead blasting, but has zero reflection. It is sometimes referred to as "French Gray" by the firearms refinishers.

Functionally, stainless barrels will resist accuracy loss due to throat erosion better than chrome moly barrels; and are thus a better choice for overbore calibers. On the down side, they can be messed up a lot quicker by the cleaning process if your cleaning methods are bush league. You need a bore guide and a quality one piece cleaning rod as well as properly fitted jags. The K-Mart Hoppe's gun cleaning kits will ruin a good stainless barrel.

I,m sure the % of deer spooked by the shine off a barrel is not a worry. And look at it this way hopefully your bullet will travel faster than the deer,it should! vangunsmith

Never understood the worry about flash from a stainless barrel. A highly polished blued barrel will shine too. If you wear glasses they shine and so does your scope lenses, binoculars, wristwatch, etc. Quit sweating the small stuff. Hunting is suppose to be fun.

I shot a spike after he stared at me and my stainless barrel for 5 minutes. I would still like to look at getting it bead blasted. Where can I get this done?

Borty77-Are you saying that your stainless barrel is not bead blasted?Every company that I know of bead blasts their stainless actions and barrels on their hunting rifles.

I just don't like Stainless barrels. I never could seem to get the accuracy out of them that I get from standard steel. I admit that most of my stainless barrels have been handguns.
