Default 300 WM Trajectory

Could someone run the trajectory of a 180 grain 300 Win Mag in a popular factory cartridge from 50 out to 400 yards with a zero at 100 yards.

Thanks
Tom

That is going to depend on the bullet choice. I would suggest looking at the Remington and Winchester websites. Both have sections that will give you the ballistics on their factory loaded ammunition.

P.S. You may want to consider zeroing at 200 yards instead. It will increase your point blank aiming range and only brings you up about 1.5-1.8" at 100 yards.

That will depend on the ballistic co-efficient of the bullet, the actual velocity produced by the load in your gun(chronographed),and the height of the crosshairs above the center of the bore.If you have exact numbers for all three factors, your calculationsmight be within a couple of inches at 400 yards. If you start estimating these figures, the error can be considerable.Even ballistic coefficients posted by the bulletmanufacturers can be questionable.

statjunk.... this should give you some idea what your bullet is doing.
these are with a 100 yard zero with a remington 180 grain soft point.
1/4 low @50 yds.
dead @ 100yds.
1 in. low @ 150 yds.
3 in. low @ 200yds.
6-1/2 low @ 250 yds.
11-1/2 low @ 300 yds.
18 low @ 350 yds.
26-1/2 low @ 400 yds.

Thanks for the info. I am going to sight in my rifle today at 50 yards for a max kill range of 175 yards. I am just going set it dead zero at 50 yards. That should do for this weekend. I want to take this new rifle out there!

I wouldn't sight a 300 WM dead on at 50 yards. The bullet will never come up after that. I would suggest sighting it in at 100 yards, if not about 2" high at 100 yards. It would not be good to sight in a gun at 50 yards, and expect that you know what it will do at 175. You need to shoot it at 175 to find out!!

I understand that I won't know exactly what it will do but it should be in a particular ball park. I'm shooting at a deer that is approx. 16" wide top to bottom.

I just got back from the worst range I have ever been to which was at Bass Pro. It was the only place that would let me shoot the 300 in doors.

Will 1" high at 25 yards put me pretty close to zero at 100 yards? I am shooting Federal Premium with Nosler Partition at 180 grains.

Thanks
Tom

statjunk - I am not trying to sound harsh, but as had been said before, trajectory tables are only going to get you close (maybe). You said you sighted in indoors, at 25 yards. There is a constant inside, which you can't find outside, namely temperature. I would venture to guess that you won't be dead on at 25 yards if you go outside. And as for 16", not deer elk, maybe, moose, for sure, NOT deer. Your target may be 10" at max, with your best killing range about 8". The only way you will know where the bullet is going to be is to shoot it at those distances. We can speculate all we want, but sighting in indoors at 25 yards, and then expecting to have an idea of what it will do at 100 yards outside, in who knows what kind of weather is basically, well, impossible!!! If you want to get the trajectory tables, go to www.federalcartridge.com and look them up, its all there as anyone can get.

If you believe the ballistic calculations(and that is a big if),1" high at 25 yards would put you 7" high at 100 yards and 10.5" high at 175 yards. In other words if you aim for the middle of the kill zone you would miss it at both 100 yards and 175yards.
