Default Turkey gun for deer hunting???

I have a Mossy 500 turkey gun camoflauged with short barrel and fiber optic rifled sights. I screwed in a improved choke tube and shot 5 remington rifled slugs. I shot 16" high and not very consistent pattern. Is there any hope of this gun shooting slugs with accuracy. Would different slugs work or maybe a rilfed choke tube?? I'm will try different slugs soon but has any else used this type of gun to hunt deer with??

From Mossberg!

Can I shoot slugs or buckshot through a "smoothbore" field barrel with Accu-choke tubes? (500/9200/88/695 models) Yes, and with Sabots or rifled slugs, the more 'open' the choke tube, the better the accuracy ("Improved Cylinder" recommended). The "Full" or "Modified" choke tubes are preferred for buckshot loads. Slugs, buckshot and steel shot loads are not recommended for use with an Extra Full "Turkey tube" installed, due to the tube's tight constriction. Do not fire any load without a choke tube installed, doing so will damage the internal choke tube threads

Try a different brand of slug like Brennecke or Winchester. Unless your gun is back-bored like an 835, it should shoot slugs well with an improved cylinder tube. Like most guns, it probably has preferences. Don't give up. My Browning won't shoot Remingtons in the same direction twice. It'll shoot Brenneckes like a rifle.
