Default QUESTION ABOUT SAVAGE MODEL 99

I WAS WONDERING IF ANYONE COULD GIVE ME SOME GENERAL INFORMATION ABOUT THE SAVAGE LEVER ACTION MODEL 99 ...THIS RIFLE IS CHAMBERED FOR THE 300 SAVAGE ...HAS A STEEL TUBE 4 POWER WEAVER SCOPE AND PACKMYER FLIP AWAY SCOPE MOUNT ..I UNDERSTAND THIS WAS A PRE WAR MODEL WITH THE SAFTY LOCATED ON THE RIGHT SIDE OF THE LEVER. I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW WHAT TO EXPECT FROM THIS RIFLE USING IT FOR DEER HUNTING AND IF ANYONE HAS AN IDEA AS TO THE VALUE ....

THANK YOU
DD

Well, my friends dad just about bought one. He saw the ad in the paper and called the guy up and offered him $350 CDN, the guy said he wasn't taking less then $1,100 CDN [&:]But then the dad found one a couple weeks later for $300 CDN. Anyways, I've heard tons of good stuff about the 99 although I never really liked the looks of them, just personal opion though. Gives you better ballistics than the ol' 30-30. For a deep woods brush gun for deer and under 100 yards moose, I'd take it. Hope this helped,

Cory

I would guess the value would be between 150-250$.

The reason I do not think it would fetch more is the scope mount. The mount appears to be drilled into the side of the reciever. I believe that wouldremove mostof the collectable value of the gun.

There is over a page of listings for Savage 99's on Gunbroker if you would like to get a better of values.

DD, nice gun! As i've said before, the Savage 99 is very high on my wish list!
As with most other things, the 99 came in many different variations, so there will be great differences in values! Models with load counters and takedown models bring the best prices!

I believe the lever mounted safety was produced into the early 1960s. I gave the same varient in .243 Winchester to a coworker that helped me work on a vehicle. Kinda wish i had given him something else, but it is his favorite rifle now with several hogs and a couple of whitetails to its credit.
