I have a co-worker who has a chance to buy 2 30-30 pumps from a relative of his for $375.00 for both. One has a scope 3-9 busnell on it for $175.00 the other one is $150.00 with no scope.I was thinking of buying the one with the scope from him for my grandson. He used a borrowed rem. 760 270 pump last year and liked it.He is 13 now.Do you think this would be a good gun for him and I know these guns are old and hard to find do you think they would be reliable.
It depends on what Make they are. I can only think of Savage making a 30-30 pump. My uncle has one or I wouldn't know about it. They also made it in 35 Rem. I don't know if Remington made a 76 or 760 in 30-30 or not. I haven't heard much about the Savage pumps to say whether they are of good value/reliable or not. Sorry for the lack of advice. Wosre thing, you buy them or one of them and don't like it you can trade it in or sell it.
As I recall, back in the mid 70's, Savage made a pump action rifle/carbine in 30/30. I think it was the model 170. I remember seeing 'em listed in the Shooter's Bible. Only saw one in a shop once. Seemed likea nice little rifle, but don't recall as they were very popular. I guess most folks wanted a 30/30 went with the lever (Marlin or Winchester) then.
yeah its a savage most probably, and I had experince with 3 of them, they were each a POS! Do your granson a favor and let it pass, if he likes a pump rifle get him a remmy in 260 or 7mm-08, its more money but it'll be worth it in the long run!
